600 Gen 2 MAX low volume on Series X

I've tried two 600 Gen 2 MAX headsets (I love that white/gray camo design, btw) on my Xbox Series X, and no matter what sound app (Atmos, DTS...), sliders I choose, the headset's max volume just isn't very high. I've tried all kinds of things. Firmware was updated right out of the box. Making sure the chat mix and volume sliders on the console are maxed out, the chat mix wheels on the headset itself, trying different modes, but the headset just doesn't get very loud.

BUT! This is really odd. If I go into the Dolby Atmos app and select the "Movie" options, it'll get loud. Like the loud it seems it's supposed to be. Enough to want to turn it down a little bit. Then anything I do on the Xbox after that sounds fine unless I choose a different headset sound mode, like DTS, or if I turn the Xbox off and turn it back on, then the max volume is back to sounding really low.

I have the official Microsoft Wireless headset, and I don't get any of these issues with that unit. It gets decently loud and STAYS that way. For some reason the two Gen 2 MAX's I've tried just can't put out a high volume, when given the circumstance, CAN put out much louder.

I dunno what to do with this headset. I really like the look and build, features, but this volume thing is killing it for me.
