The USA has a serious gun problem; however, that is hiding another problem. Our murder rate from non-gun-related homicides is higher than Canada’s total murder rate from all causes. What makes us so violent?
In 2021, the total murder rate in the USA was 6.9 per 100,000, with most of these being gun-related.
The murder rate in the USA for non-gun homicides was about 2.75 per 100,000.
The total murder rate for Canada for the same period was 1.9 per 100,000.
The murder rate in Canada for non-gun homicides was about 0.9 per 100,000
Even if the US got rid of all guns we would still have a higher murder rate than Canada.
