Can We Officially Change the Term "American"?

In Quebec, we often use the term "Étatuniens" to refer to Americans. In the Spanish-speaking world, they use "Estadounidense." ( I think). Is the English equivalent "United Statesian"?

Regardless, I believe we should push for it to be officially recognized.
