Nepotism is not the biggest problem in today's Bollywood, 'Gatekeeping' is.

So many people are having arguments about nepotism but I think it was always prevalent in Bollywood from the beginning to the 2000s.

I mean Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand were nepo babies but that didn't stop Dilip Kumar from becoming the biggest star of 1950s.

Karisma, Kajol, Raveena were top nepo actresses from the 90s. But the lady superstar of that time was outsider Madhuri who used to charge more than her heroes. Even outsiders Juhi, Manisha & Urmila too were thriving because there was an even playing field for everyone.

SRK became King Khan ahead of nepo babies Aamir & Salman. But the latter two didn't snatch opportunities from him because of their insucurities. Rather everyone was competitive & believed in healthy politics.

People criticize 2000s nepo babies Hrithik, Kareena, Ranbir & Shahid as having survived flops & bad performances because of their privileges. But other than Priyanka, Kangana, Vidya & Deepika I don't see any other male/female outsider who debuted in the 2000s be at par with those 4 in terms of looks & talent.

So nepos & outsiders were competing for same roles, almost at the same playing field. They were getting opportunities, had flops but bounced back if they were worth it.

But everything changed from the 2010s. Industry started gatekeeping vehemently. Untalented below average looking nepo babies were getting launched, getting opportunities ahead of deserving outsiders, getting awards created just for them & hiring PR with their parents money.

On the other hand outsiders were considered unwanted, their roles were snatched, they were maligned with blinds. From the 2020s the top producers stopped launching outsiders altogether.

All this because industry is gatekeeping at any cost without an even playing field. You don't want to watch Rasha? Watch Veer Paharganj instead. Don't wanna watch him either? Watch Junaid & Khushi then.

I mean nahi dekhna yaar humko in mei se koi. Hatao inko! Give me talented & pretty nepo actress like Sharvari. Give me talented & pretty outsider like Pratibha Ranta. Give me charming & talented Zahan Kapoor.

I don't have a problem with nepotism as long as no gatekeeping exists for outsiders.

Stop with this gatekeeping yaar. Save Bollywood!
