How should we treat immigration?

So I have a bit of mixed feelings and would like some advice.

The pope and cardinal McElroy have stated how the mass deportation of illegal immigrants that trump wants to do is immoral. I understand where they are coming from because on average even illegal immigrants tend to be better "citizens" in regards to aiding local economies, not committing crimes, etc.

But at the same time crossing the border not through the port of entry is illegal. I believe we should be able to know who everyone is in this country and I see the logic of not wanting just anyone in.

As catholics should we be supporting open borders? I genuinely don't know how I should feel about it and would like some advice from people who know about this topic more than I do. Thank you.
