How can God call humans property?

In Leviticus 25:30-45 and in Exodus 21:20:21, there are so laws about slavery and how to treat a slave. There are different laws depending on if one is of Israel or of a foreign clan. My question though is specific to how these humans are being categorized. As property. And if a foreign slave transferable property at that. How in the world can we think it’s okay for God to tell Israel these people are property? I am a Christian but I have big problems with this kind of thing bc it says God said it.
