Crosstrek Convenience vs wilderness

Hey guys, on a budget for an suv and the crosstrek is one of the few i like enough to stomach buying new. Used market is still pretty bad in British Columbia and the perks of buying new(choosing my add ons, extended warranty, better interest rate)nearly have me ready to pull the trigger. The wilderness looks great and the clearance/towing capacity for my small fishing boat is extremely appealing but my budget makes me wonder if i could get away with the convenience or touring. Could anyone share their experience with the cheaper models going off pavement? Wouldnt be off roading in the literal sense but to get up into the mountains for fishing/camping i do go up some pretty rough logging roads. Thanks in advance
