Cycling Shoe Fit

Hey everyone, I am currently shopping for my first pair of cycling shoes. I am a bit lost regarding fit and therefore hoped some of you could help me out or maybe push me in the right direction. Unfortunately, there is LBS near me that has gravel/MTB shoes in the shop. The nearest shop is about a 2h drive and I might consider going there if online turns out to be unsuccessful.

At first I ordered a pair of giro empire vr90s but they were too narrow. Next I tried the shimano rx801 (which you can see in the pictures). Looking at the insole you can see that the shoe seems to fit my foot shape kind of perfectly and also the length looks very good to me (about 1cm left at the front). However, my left foot is slightly larger than my right and while my small toe doesn‘t touch the side wall of the shoe I have notable pressure/contact from the top (marked in red in the first picture). You can‘t really see it in the picture but you can also see a slight „dent“ where my small toes touches the upper shoe fabric. While it is not painful it is also definitely not comfortable. At the same spot on the right foot the pressure is much less pronounced and feels good I‘d say.

Now where I need help is the following: Is this a type of discomfort that is usual and where a shoe needs to be broken in? Or is this a nogo and maybe the shimano shoe is too „flat“ for me and I should look for a different model? Would sizing up be an option? Any help is appreciated!
