Jeopardy! discussion thread for Wed., Dec. 25

Here are today's contestants:

  • Amber Gamrat, a software developer from Hudson, New Hampshire;
  • Mat Farhoud-Dionne, a musician from Montreal, Quebec; and
  • Laura Faddah, a manager from Memphis, Tennessee. Laura is a four-day champ with winnings of $40,400.

Jeopardy!

ISLANDS & ARCHIPELAGOS // THE NOVEL CHAPTER // TRIPLE JEOPARDY! // I'M SO INDICTED // 5, 5 // FOOT BALL

DD1 - $600 - THE NOVEL CHAPTER - "Eliza's Escape" (Mathieu fell further into the red by losing $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Laura $4,200, Mathieu -$2,200, Amber -$200.

Scores entering DJ: Laura $8,800, Mathieu -$1,200, Amber $600.

Double Jeopardy!

THINKING ABOUT THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE // ALL KINDS OF MUSIC // MOLLUSKS // LET'S GO TO THE PARK // HAPPY 100th, ROD SERLING // "A"CRONYMS & "A"BBREVIATIONS

DD2 - $1,200 - ALL KINDS OF MUSIC - Aubades were sung in the morning; these courtship tunes, like Mozart's, "Oh, Come To The Window", were meant to be sung at night (Mathieu doubled to $8,000 vs. $8,800 for Laura.)

DD3 - $1,200 - LET'S GO TO THE PARK - Built over abandoned railroad tracks, this Chicago park opened in 2004, just a few years behind schedule (Mathieu dropped $3,000 from his score of $11,600 vs. $10,800 for Laura.)

Mathieu had a tough first round, rallied nicely to take the lead from Laura, fell behind again when he missed DD3, but was back on top after Laura missed the last clue of DJ. Going into FJ it was Mathieu at $13,400, Laura with $13,200 and Amber at $2,200.

Final Jeopardy!

U.S. PLACE NAMES - A trio including Andrew Jackson founded this city with a name that evokes a great city of the ancient world

Once again, only Laura was correct on FJ, adding $4,800 to win with $18,000 for a five-day total of $58,400.

Final scores: Laura $18,000, Mathieu $399, Amber -$2,200.

Judging the judges: Although the clue was based on a line from a "Twilight Zone" episode, it wasn't in the holiday spirit for them to not accept "a Santa Claus" and insist on "department store Santa Claus".

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is "Uncle Tom's Cabin"? DD2 - What is serenade? DD3 - What is Millennium Park? FJ - What is Memphis?
