Politicians Turning Churches into Campaign Grounds: Disgusted Beyond Words
Yesterday, we were at church for a retirement ceremony for two of our beloved elders. The church was packed with visitors, family, and well-wishers who came to celebrate this special moment. But then, out of nowhere, an aspiring MP for 2027 decided to show up and asked for a chance to speak. I was honestly appalled.
This guy walks in with his entourage — two security guys and his driver — and instead of just saying hello and respecting the occasion, he turns it into a whole show. His team yapped on for nearly 10 minutes, saying absolutely nothing of substance, just taking up time. By the time the politician himself took the mic, I was already irritated.
What made it worse was how he acted towards the retirees. He literally forced one of the elders and his wife to say something positive about him before he gave them 3,000 Ksh, as if he was buying their praise. He did the same to the other elder and his wife, and then even pressured our Reverend to pray for him on the spot after handing over 5,000 Ksh. It felt so manipulative and gross, not to mention a waste of our time — they ended up hijacking about 25-30 minutes that should have been focused on honoring the retirees.
Church is supposed to be a sacred space, not a campaign platform. I'm beyond tired of politicians coming into our churches to promote themselves.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we should start banning politicians from using churches as campaign grounds? Because, honestly, this kind of behavior needs to stop.
