Stamp 4 Spouse Visa

Hi everyone,

I’m a Malaysian (non-visa required national) married to my Irish husband, and we’re planning to move to Ireland in October 2024. From what I’ve gathered from others’ experiences, upon arriving at the airport, I need to bring our marriage certificate and inform the officer that I want to reside in Ireland on a spouse visa. Then, I would need to register at the local immigration office within 90 days.

However, I previously consulted an immigration lawyer who advised that I need to apply for permission from the Department of Justice first, which would take about 6 months to process.

I’m confused about which is the correct procedure. Can I simply register with immigration within 90 days upon arrival, or do I need to obtain prior permission from the Department of Justice?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
