Let's Call it Rudramati Khola, Not Dhobi Khola – Reviving Respect for Our Sacred Rivers
In our culture, rivers hold significant spiritual and cultural importance. One such river, originally known as Rudramati Khola, named after Lord Rudra, has overtime been colloquially renamed Dhobi Khola. While this may seem like a minor change in name, the word "Dhobi" carries a connotation that can subconsciously encourage the mistreatment and pollution of the river.
As a community, it's important that we respect our heritage and protect our natural resources. Calling the river by its original name, Rudramati, restores its cultural and spiritual significance and reminds us of our duty to keep it clean and healthy.
It’s disheartening to see even platforms like Wikipedia and Google Maps use the name Dhobi Khola. We can change this by raising awareness and petitioning Google Maps to update the name. Inputs on how to petition with Google Maps are encouraged. Together, we can bring attention to this issue and help restore the respect this sacred river deserves.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this and any ideas you might have for making this change happen.
