Why air quality bad

Can someone explain to me why some countries in africa (excluding Nigeria because it's a big country with lots of power plants) Have bad air quality, but other countries and continents witch produce seemingly more pollution don't have bad air quality? Am I wrong, do those countries have bad air quality Aswell?
