Abel will never make a better album than Trilogy.
Firstly if you're just going to comment "Abel and The Weeknd are different now" or "Trilogy isn't an album." you probably wont be able to handle this post because I believe Trilogy is the best work Abel's released.
Considering the context of the album, the early 2010s, Abel strayed away from the trending disco-house-dance-upbeat party music completely and still managed to do it successfully. He's just dropped out of school along suffering a challenging home life, using his voice along with his friend's production as a last ditch effort to do what he loves and make something out of it.
Every single song has true individual emotion that doesn't need to consistently tell a story throughout the album in order for it be appreciated more, compared to his last three albums. This doesn't mean every track is completely unrelated, as he still keeps one of the most consistent musical-sounding themes I've listened to in an album. I can't stress enough how amazing it is that one of his earliest, if not first projects ever released is still ranked in peoples' top three albums regarding The Weeknd's work.
I go back to this album every single time I feel like I need it, which is often, every couple of months. I absolutely love the gritty drums and unique melodies that even Abel himself cannot live up to regarding the majority of his music. Something changed after Kissland and it took him until After Hours to give people a peak at his potential again.
I understand that some people may not appreciate this post, and I also understand that Abel wishes to move on from this era and most likely this style. I believe it's apart of Abel's personality and soul to be innovative and recognize growth among his work, so it's definitely not a bad thing that he's making that happen. Although it clearly worked best in his earlier era of music.
