I think English is a wonderful language
Over the last few years, I've seen more and more people online calling English an awful, inefficient, and "ugly" language whenever languages are brought up. There may be many reasons for this, although some of it I feel is simply trying to subvert a language that has global presence. I am bilingual, but my first language is English, and over the years I have come to love English and the strengths it has as a language.
English has a level of specificity that is difficult to accomplish in other languages. The wide range of words from different sources creates many ways to say the same thing, but it also allows for unique ways of painting mental pictures and inserting emotion into statements. I don't believe that English is more artistic or descriptive than other languages, but I do think it has a unique form in these areas, and that you can do very beautiful things with it.
I'm not someone who believes everyone should speak English, or that English is inherently better than other languages. I do however enjoy it as a tool for communication and art, and it makes me sad that for whatever reason, people recently feel the need to write it off as something bad or "ugly," for whatever reason.
