What are your thoughts on Gary Bettman as NHL’s commissioner? Who is actually worse between him and Rob Manfred?
As a fan of baseball who doesn’t really watch hockey until the playoffs, discussions surrounding Manfred and Bettman were always brought up in the baseball sub when it comes to who’s the worse commissioner.
Bettman is seen in a rather positive light for being a fan of the sport, supporting small market teams and expanding the league to new markets. Obviously he’s been around a lot longer but he did make quite a lot of impact on the league today.
But when I spoke with hockey fans, most of them dislike Bettman and said NHL has never reached MLB’s level of popularity even with all the growth these past three decades. But as a baseball fan I thought most of his contributions would be seen as something positive if they were contributed to baseball, and Manfred is more or less a pure spokesperson of the owners who hasn’t done much to promote the sport.
Who really is the worst commissioner of the two in your opinion? What are some of the things Manfred did that’s better than what Bettman has done?
