Small classic flap vs medium classic flap as a first Chanel bag?

What is your experience with small vs medium classic flap bag? There is no huge price difference and I am torn between the two sizes. I want the bag in black caviar leather, and gold hardware. It will be my first Chanel bag and I am very excited about it. I am planning to wear the bag mostly at night to dinners/ events. Or maybe to a nice lunch/ brunch/ event during the day.

I got offered a mini rectangular classic flap- lamb leather, gold hardware and I know it’s a similar size to the small , but half the price ! However I don’t like the lamb skin ( not durable ) and I want to be able to wear it mostly shoulder and on my hand , not crossbody. Also, friends say if you buy the mini as a compromise you will always think about your dream one - small/ medium .. and I do agree to a point, but it’s half the price!
