Grenades don't count towards player kills?

I got my first kill with a grenade today and it didn't count towards my player kill counter. Seems odd. I know it killed him because I saw him creep over into this bush that I couldn't get LOS on and then I hucked a grenade. Found him dead a few moments later. Not sure why it wouldn't count as your kill..
