Beat my first Dragon Quest game.
Hello, about a month and some change ago I decided to pick up a Dragon Quest for the first time. The game I went with was Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D Remake. Before I get into the specifics. The game was fantastic. I apologize Square of 1988, I wasn't familiar with your game. There was a moment in the game where that switch flipped and I had that Danny Devito moment and went "I get it now". Now that's not to say I wasn't enjoying the game before that moment. Now I'm not sure if there's a correct order of events that the game has to be played in. Now obviously some things need to be complete in order for new things to be unlocked and the story to progress. I'm mostly referring to the order in which the orbs have to be collected. I think maybe the first and second have to be done in that order but the rest never felt that way. One of the things I found myself doing was just running around the World Map exploring. It was so much fuc discovering stuff. One such thing I discovered was the town Mur. One thing I loved about the game was how seemingly everywhere I went, the characters always help my father Ortega in high regard. Mur was no exception. After chatting with the locals I ended up with Ortega's helm. Awesome. I took it home and spoke with Mom and she insisted I kept it. I then equipped it and continued about my journey as one does. I will say this, I did hate how the avatar doesn't actually wear the helm but that's ok. Since I know in-universe I had it on. Eventually I found myself in Jipang, that was being tormented by Orochi. It demanded women sacrifices to eat. So the Queen agreed to save her people. I then went to Orochi's Cave not too far from there and entered. Making my way to it's depths I reached the Hydra Orochi and did battle with her. I eventually won but in her defeat a portal opened up. I walked into it and was taken to the Temple back in Jipang. I was confused. I entered it and the servants were tending to a wound that appeared on the Queen's face. I then put the pieces together. She spoke to me telepathically and told me nobody ever saw her true form and that she wouldn't make a fuss if I simply turned around and walked away. But I couldn't just leave (mostly because it was story mode stuff but that's not the point). I said no and she transformed back into the Hydra, shocking everyone. We did battle once more. Now keep in mind I couldn't see it but this entire time I had Ortega's Helmet equiped. So after I defeated Orochi the townsfolk of Jipang sang my praises. I was like "I get it now. I am a Hero". From then on it was off to the races and I never looked back. I appreciate everyone who gave me help when I first got into the game. I took as much of the advice given to heart, while also playing the game how I chose to. I'm a fan now, and yes. I shall be continuing the story in Dragon Quest 1&2 HD 2D Remake. Alongside other Dragon Quest games along the way. Total runtime was 125:55 hours, with my character being Level 52.
