Freezer isn't working properly since I defrosted it.

I defrosted this chest freezer because it was icing up. It has 2 cooling plates and now only one gets cold. It was working perfect until I decided to turn it off to defrost it. I know it shouldn't be icing up as much as it is but why is only 1 plate cooling properly now?
