syrian hamsters compared to rats?
i've always really loved rats and how they are affectionate and really seem to enjoy and seek out handling, but something that has held me back from taking care of them is the fact they must live in groups. given their short lifespans i think it would be very tough on me to care for one if the other dies, considering i would also have to balance disrupting their environment by introducing a new rat to them in their old (potentially ill) age and not letting them be lonely.
anyways, i think an alternative more suited to me could be a male syrian hamster. i am aware they have different care requirements but i was wondering what kind of temperament they have and if you feel you can bond with them as you can with rats (seeking you out, sleeping on your person etc).
appreciate any help :) i would also like to say, i am not so informed about syrian hamsters yet but i would 100% be extremely diligent in researching their care and needs if i were to get one, so please do not worry if i seem too misinformed to get one yet.
