Suggestions for Longreach in March?

I'm headed out to Longreach with my parents in early March (fly out, spirit of the outback back) and we've got two nights out there. Given that the tourist season doesn't start until the end of March/ April, are there any suggestions for things to do? There will be 4 of us total, the parents are in their early 60s, we will have a hire car, they are British so will probably find the heat a bit of a shock, but this was the only time they could come over.
