Exploring application of LLMs and other self hosted AI tools.

With the recent release of DeekSeek-R1 and other decent models that can be self hosted for a not terrible cost.

We have a decent set of interesting tools at our disposal that we can leverage for applications that would be challenging to build otherwise.

Personally I view the LLM more as a solution component, sort of like like a MySQL database as part of a solution tech stack. As a software component, one use for the LLM is a natural language interface, it inputs language, performs linguistic operations and outputs language.

The other lens through which we can look at AI is as a means of production. It has the potential to produce labor. Can this productivity be harnessed to benefit the working class in its struggle?

While self hosted AI is more limited, can those limits be mitigated with classic software solutions that work in tandem with the AI components towards some task or purpose?

For the purpose of this discussion, lets consider everything under the umbrella of self hosted AI. LLM, vison, image generated, and related components like vector databases and so on.

What are the potential use cases for AI applications that would empower the working class?
