Are you guys really getting your toddlers into high quality and consistent therapy?

Adult speech therapist here struggling so much accessing consistent and evidence-based treatment for my son.

He didn't qualify for early steps but has a significant speech impairment. Our insurance won't cover speech therapy for a developmental delay. The hospital system we work for set up a self-pay arrangement. Since October, we have been through 3 therapists due to resignations. Appointments are often cancelled the same day. At evaluation, 2x per week was recommended. We can't even get in consistently once per week.

We decided to explore paying out of pocket at a private clinic. The costs were huge and none of the clinics could schedule him more than once per week with a consistent therapist.

The largest speech language pathology graduate program in the country is located in our city.

If early intervention is so crucial, why does it seem so hard to access. Is this the norm?
