Adding VR to UX Designer's skills?

Hey all,

I currently work for a company that just lost it's primary VR developer and is looking at me and another guy to carry the torch as we have some 3D experience and expressed interest in learning VR development. I have a ton of visual design experience, some 3D experience, and now a ton of UX Design / UI prototyping / Interaction Design experience as well..

I'm hoping to find a way to make this work as I dont have a ton of free time like a college student might have. I realistically can dedicate about ~5 hours a week to learning Unity, am trying to implement a learning strategy, and was hoping to get some advice..

I have tried to learn programming (JavaScript) in the past and REALLY don't enjoy it, and the learning is VERY slow (I dont have metrics to prove this point, just my feelings).. I feel stupid and like my mind just isn't built for math and logic when I try to learn programming concepts (feel free to roast me in the comments). I would prefer to do things like modeling/sculpting/texturing/concept art/UI design/etc.. as I have a really good eye for that sort of visual stuff.. but I understand how CRUCIAL programming is.

That being said..

Someone on my team that will be assisting with the VR stuff is wanting to use visual scripting. I thought this was a great idea as I am familiar with node-based editing like the material editor in Blender.

I haven't really been able to find a good learning path for Unity beginners that focuses on visual scripting in lieu of hand-jamming code. It feels like most paths dive right into Visual Studio and I immediately get the feels.. Is there something that someone can recommend based on all this? Is it shooting myself in the foot to try to learn this beast? How long does one typically need to commit before they can create basic VR experiences? Am I screwed? Is this thing on? *taps mic*

Any advice is very appreciated. Cheers!
