Got Step Increase Rather Than Grade Increase; Leaving current position
Hey all,
I'm a new federal employee and I just completed my first year as a legal assistant in DOJ/EOIR. The position grades are 5/6/7/8. I found out that I was given a step increase rather than a grade increase. Our office changed bosses and I was assured by my last boss (not my immediate sup) I would be promoted to the next grade and should stay with the agency.
However, I ultimately decided that I wanted to change jobs. My immediate supervisor ended up finding out that I was moving forward with another office from that office's HR (oops). I completed my 52 weeks on 10/23/23.
I checked my EPP and saw that I was just given a step increase. It looks like there was some last minute changes to whatever plans they had since they now know I don't have the intention of staying. Instead of spending that money on someone who's leaving, I get a small adjustment. GS 5-2 instead of GS 6-1. I got a glowing employee review too.
It hurts me a bit since I wanted to ask my new office for an adjustment for the final offer. I'm still in the investigations/fingerprint/background phase so I haven't even reached the FO yet. Its all still tentative and will be a while since I get that FO.
I appreciate any thoughts or advice on this. Thank you!
Edit: Talked with sup and said I should've gotten one by now or next pay period. She confirmed that it was a promotion and is understanding that its important for my next job.
